Ashley Bird

Convinced of the power of connection and collaboration, Ashley Bird uses her Life Sciences background to progress her career and develop others.

What’s your story?

With over two decades of international leadership experience in Life Sciences, Healthcare, and MedTech, I am recognised for shaping forward-thinking strategies that deliver lasting transformation and growth. Throughout my career, I have successfully led commercial operations, overseen complex business portfolios, and built high-performing, inclusive teams. I’m a passionate advocate for leadership development and employee engagement, having designed programs that strengthened retention and elevated team performance. I have a proven ability to navigate regulated markets and cultivate strategic partnerships, and want to use these skills to help organisations unlock long-term value and thrive in a rapidly evolving landscape.

What excites you most about your industry?

I am energised by the rapid evolution of the Life Sciences industry, where innovation, data, and technology are transforming how we deliver health outcomes. What excites me most is the convergence of digital tools and human insight—unlocking smarter, faster, and more personalised care. From AI-powered diagnostics to real-time data integration, I see limitless potential to drive better decisions, accelerate innovation, and reach more patients. I have a passion for meaningful impact, and I am inspired by the opportunity to help shape a future where science, technology, and purpose come together to improve lives on a global scale.

What drives you in your career to push beyond what other people consider normal?

What drives me in my career is a deep commitment to people, purpose, and progress. I am passionate about building teams, inspiring success, and being part of something greater—work that truly makes a difference in the world. For me, going above and beyond is not just about performance; it’s about creating impact, empowering others, and leaving a lasting legacy. Whether leading strategic initiatives or developing future leaders, I am motivated by the opportunity to help individuals thrive and organisations grow. It’s this passion for people and purpose that continues to fuel my journey.

What have been the most useful skills you have learnt and applied in your journey?

I have a broad knowledge of business and a passion for building teams that drive success. I believe in hiring for energy and potential, not just experience, ensuring we bring in individuals who are eager to grow and contribute. Creating a workplace where everyone thrives is at the heart of my approach—fostering an environment of trust, collaboration, and respect. I am deeply committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), as I believe that diverse perspectives fuel innovation and lead to stronger, more resilient teams. My focus is on empowering people to reach their full potential.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?

A quote that has always resonated with me is, ‘Steady seas don’t make good sailors.’ It’s a powerful reminder that growth and innovation come from navigating challenges. In business, it’s not the smooth waters that define success, but our ability to face adversity, adapt, and learn. Embracing uncertainty has helped me stay resilient, find opportunities in tough situations, and continuously evolve as a leader.

Who inspires you?

I find inspiration from many places—especially from the incredible teams I’ve had the privilege of working with. Collaborating with diverse, high-performing individuals has taught me the true power of inclusivity. I’ve also been fortunate to learn from a few remarkable leaders and role models who’ve shown me what diversity really means and its transformative impact on success. These leaders have demonstrated that embracing diverse perspectives leads to stronger decision-making, creativity, and innovation. It’s through these experiences that I’ve come to understand that the best outcomes come when we truly value and include everyone.

What have you learnt recently that blew you away?

Recently, I’ve been truly blown away by the support and generosity of my network. Whether it’s sharing expertise, offering guidance, or simply showing up when needed, the willingness of others to help and support each other has been nothing short of inspiring. This experience has reinforced my belief in the power of connection and collaboration. It’s a reminder that the relationships we build are one of the most valuable assets we have.

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?

If I had the chance to do it all over again, I wouldn’t change a thing. Every experience—both the highs and the challenges—has shaped me into who I am today. The lessons learned from overcoming obstacles have been just as valuable as the successes. I believe that each step, no matter how difficult, has contributed to my growth and resilience. It’s easy to look back and wish for a smoother path, but those tough moments were the ones that taught me the most. I’m grateful for every twist and turn in my journey, and wouldn’t trade a single one.

How do you unwind?

When it comes to unwinding, I find peace in the simple things. I’m a keen gardener and hobby florist, I grow cut flowers, vegetables, herbs and roses in my garden—it’s a very relaxing and calm space when life gets busy. Though I’m a terrible pianist, I enjoy playing for fun, appreciating the process rather than perfection. I strive to stay healthy and most importantly, I cherish travelling with my family, exploring new places, and making memories together.

What is a major mindset change, belief shift or ‘ah ha’ moment that you’ve experienced in relation to your career?

A significant shift in my professional mindset occurred during my MBA, thanks to the guidance of my mentor who taught me that feedback is a gift! During those two years I came to recognise its profound value as a strategic tool for continuous improvement. This perspective has been instrumental in refining my leadership approach and decision-making. I now actively seek feedback to drive personal and professional growth, and I am deeply grateful to my mentor for her influence in shaping this invaluable approach to leadership development.

Everyone in business should read this book:

I’ve always embraced the idea of seeking new spaces for growth and finding opportunities where others may see barriers. “Blue Ocean Strategy” by W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne resonated with me deeply, as it reinforces the power of creating “Blue Oceans”—untapped, uncontested markets—rather than competing in overcrowded spaces. Throughout my career, I’ve consistently looked for cracks in the fence, innovative ways to cut through, and carve out paths to success. This mindset has been integral to driving transformation and achieving sustainable growth in every team I’ve been part of.

Shameless plug for your business or career:

I’m passionate about driving strategic expansion and sustainable growth. I specialise in helping businesses identify new opportunities and optimise their strategies to scale effectively. My focus is always on people and teams—aligning talent with long-term goals to foster collaboration and build high-performance cultures. I truly believe that success starts with the right people, and I’m committed to developing leadership at all levels. If you’re ready to unlock your business’s potential and drive meaningful growth, I’d love to partner with you to create lasting impact and achieve your goals.
