What’s your story?
Over the last 24 years I has worked for many prestigious brand names in the business including Chiva Som, Six Senses Resorts and Spas, Imperial Spa Thailand, as well as boutique medical lifestyle wellness brands such as Tria Integrative Wellness in Bangkok, IS Wellness, Integrative Wellness Consultants, Verita Life in Bangkok, Life Clinic in Hong Kong, General Manager WellCare at Sangha by Octave, and my most recent role as Director of Wellness Operations at Serensia Woods. I have vast experience encompasses both consulting, conception, pre-opening and management.
What excites you most about your industry?
I have seen a massive shift this year due to Covid 19, the emergence of so many online wellness workshops, classes, challenges and at home devices. It’s a very innovative space with a community focus on supporting individuals achieve their wellness goals. I straddle the online and offline worlds where app development for improving wellness meets a wellness retreat in Zhuhai China. It’s a very dynamic space and we have to be nimble to stay current as well as be able to react quickly to global developments.
What drives you in business to push beyond what other people consider normal?
Well apart from developing a health retreat in China during Covid 19, we are in a space that is in its infancy in this market with an established understanding on how Traditional Chinese Medicine works but not necessarily functional medicine and you need to be an active participating in staying well. From a tourism perspective we are not at all in a normal space for this market so ensuring we deliver a project that attracts local and international guests we must have a broad spectrum of wellness activities and programs.
What have been the most useful skills you have learnt and applied in your journey?
I have often been involved in pre-opening and launching new products to the market. Being able to multitask while keeping the project on track is probably the biggest skill I learned early in my career – Spend the time planning your critical path and then keeping to your plan.
What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
The first 50 years are free, make sure you hit 50 in the best shape possible both physically, mentally, and financially. Over the years I have seen people focus on one of these goals but do not get the entire package. Unfortunately too many times its their health that suffers and are unable to enjoy the wealth they have made.
Who inspires you?
I have been incredibly lucky in my life to have met many intelligent people both in business, wellness, and medical fields. They inspire me to keep reading and learning about business and the human body. Science and business are merging to give each and everyone the ability to get the body to function to its optimum.
What have you learnt recently that blew you away?
I just finished reading Lifespan by Dr. Sinclair – His research into NMN and NAD+ is very exciting and although controversial its potential with good lifestyle choice to lower disease risk is exciting.
If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
I would read the scientific journals earlier in life and apply the knowledge to myself and others in the programs I develop.
How do you unwind?
I go to the gym 5 nights a week, usually do a 70km – 100km bike ride on Saturday and enjoy a glass or wine.
What is a major mindset change, belief shift or ‘ah ha’ moment that you’ve experienced in relation to your business?
Meet the market, just because what you are doing should be good for the people doesn’t mean they see it that way. By adapting to your market you can meet it faster and make a great change for good than holding on to an ideal (ego).
