There’s a belief in (some) leadership circles that great leaders should have all the answers.

In my experience, the opposite is closer to true. The best leaders I’ve worked with, on boards and in the C-suite, aren’t the ones who know everything. They ask better questions and create enough safety for other people to think clearly.

Trying to answer everything yourself just creates a bottleneck with a title.

Even in coaching, my job is to help people trust their own thinking again, not hand them answers.
