Frustrated by the lack of benefit from conventional medicines, Jenine Boser turned to alternative therapies and they helped her so much she is now using them to help others.
What’s your story?
In my twenties my mental and physical health were at an all-time low. I started seeking alternative ways to help myself get through the day; this couldn’t be all there was to life, right? I found Reiki and immediately fell in love. After my first session I was anxiety free for three whole months and took a deep dive into the world of energy healing and alternative medicine. Now I help others overcome their traumas and mental illnesses just like I did, so we can live the lives we desire!
What excites you most about your industry?
I’ve seen the results in myself first hand. After years of trying medications and jumping from doctor to doctor, specialist to specialist and getting no results I was so frustrated. I was only 25, how could I be so sick? Childhood illness had left me with a lot of baggage to carry into my adulthood and there seemed to be no help available. I know how far I’ve come, what excites me most about my business is getting to help other people see the potential in their life again too. It’s a magical experience to see someone’s life change.

What drives you in business to push beyond what other people consider normal?
I’ve always had a great level of stubbornness. I grew up on a farm, both my parents were entrepreneurs, and neither of them wanted this lifestyle for me. But a nine-to-five job just was not what I needed for my own health, and I was taking so many sick days. Being an entrepreneur gives me the flexibility and freedom I’ve been craving for many years, even though it’s stressful at times as my business is in its “toddler”stage. I traded a structured schedule for working 24 hours a day 365 days a year but I wouldn’t change it!
What have been the most useful skills you have learnt and applied in your journey?
A couple come to mind. Number one: hiring a business coach. Sometimes you need someone to be your cheerleader and to help you see the big picture when you’re stressed. Number two: learning to believe in my own resilience and courage. I am much more capable than I thought I was, and feel like I have grown as a person becoming an entrepreneur. I know that I can weather the tough times, and that my business can potentially be my stable income earner until retirement. That keeps me motivated to wake up everyday and keep trying.
What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
Be careful who you compare yourself to. A lot of business coaches or financial advisers will sell you the idea of earning $100,000 or more a year as an entrepreneur. What I’ve had to remind myself is that we’re not in the same business. They are selling what worked for them. I am helping clients heal deep-seated traumas, mental illness, and physical pain. I am in the service industry, a relationship industry, so it’s important to only compare myself to others who serve clients like I do. Otherwise I’ll always think that I’m losing.
Who inspires you?
My parents. I know being an entrepreneur isn’t what they wanted for me, but they showed me from a young age what it was like to be your own boss, to control your own schedule, and to work through difficult times. My dad was the reason I went to business school to get my business degree in the first place, he said “business school will never go to waste”. It never has; I use my Human Resources/Business degree daily. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
What have you learnt recently that blew you away?
That it’s not always about creating something new. I create a lot of content, e-books, and meditations for my clients. What I found is that I can use one topic, or one track and share it to multiple platforms and in multiple ways. Each time I’m reaching new people, or I teach the topic in a slightly new way. Recycling content has saved me so much time and stress trying to always be “fresh and new”. Save that energy for other things.
If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
I would say don’t quit your day job until you’re financially ready. I was laid off from my corporate job during the pandemic in 2020 and decided to take the leap into starting my business full-time. I had been slowly building it while working in Human Resources full-time, and I thought I could take the leap. I found myself very financially stressed for 2 years and have taken on many part-time gigs to help pay my bills. The common adage of “don’t have a plan B” only makes sense if you have a savings account.
How do you unwind?
I take as many breaks as I need to, and lots of naps. I schedule my day around my energy and what makes me excited. I love watching Netflix on my phone, or scrolling through Tik-Tok, or taking my dog for a walk. I have many ways that I unwind, it’s mostly about taking time to myself to do the things I want to do. My business allows me to create “me time”.
What is a major mindset change, belief shift or ‘ah ha’ moment that you’ve experienced in relation to your business?
That you are your business. As someone who lives with PTSD my trauma absolutely acts up in my business! The fears I have about failing, not having enough money etc didn’t go away overnight just because I started a business. The same fears and worries I had in a corporate job came with me into my own business. Except this time I couldn’t run away from them. I’ve had to learn to get comfortable with my thoughts, and challenged my expectations. I’ve had to learn to give myself a break and just do the best I can.
Everyone in business should read this book:
It’s a little outside my industry, but I found this book to be so insightful when it comes to debts. The book is called ‘Living Debt-free’ by Shannon Lee Simmons. She teaches you how to prioritize debt repayments not only based on interest rates but on emotional intensity as well. I love the idea. She really allows humans to be humans, and for our debts to have an emotional value not just a dollar value. Reiki teaches us the same, there are pains have an emotional connection too, they’re not just purely physical.
