John Leister

John Leister – Self-Published Author

To some John Leister is a security guard, but he is also a prolific author.

What’s your story?

I’m John Leister. I’m fifty-seven and I live in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I’ve been a security guard since 1985. Time flies.

In 2019, I hit rock-bottom and reached out to God. Since then, I’ve started to believe in myself like never before. Now? I’m a self-published author of over ninety novels. I’m still working security to make ends meet, but I’m following my bliss.

I’m the John Leister I always knew I could be. A manifester. If I didn’t feel that way about myself, I sure wouldn’t be doing this. I’d have nothing to write about.

What excites you most about your industry?

There is no greater satisfaction to be achieved in life than what comes from the act of creation. When we, as individuals, can point to something that exists only because we had faith that it was worthy of existence: the feeling that follows can’t be priced.

What drives you in your career to push beyond what other people consider normal?

The finiteness of time. My mortality. Getting older has been nothing but a win for me. When I was young, one of my favorite things to say was, “Maybe tomorrow.” Nope! I’m not that guy anymore!

What have been the most useful skills you have learnt and applied in your journey?

In order to feel good about ourselves, and not allow external, negative forces to poison our souls, we have to develop a philosophy for ourselves that works for us. Mine’s called Johnny’s Way. It’s a hodge-podge of all the self-help books I read as a younger man, written by Great Manifesters such as Anthony Robbins, Dr. Deepak Chopra and Dr. Wayne Dyer. If we have a strong philosophy in our minds, the hills of our lives don’t feel so insurmountable. And we’ll be more motivated to follow our bliss.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?

Don’t give up.

Who inspires you?

People who believe in themselves. Here we go: Including the people listed above: Christopher Reeve, Jack LaLanne, Bruce Lee, Ayn Rand, Tom Clancy, Stan Lee, Vince Flynn and Jake Steinfeld.

What have you learnt recently that blew you away?

God is Real.

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?

I wouldn’t have given up on my dream of becoming a comic-book artist. Looking back, though, I think I gave it up because I just didn’t have the discipline to do it. Writing requires no discipline for me at all. Doing it is as natural for me as eating, breathing and drinking beer.

How do you unwind?

See the last two words above.

What is a major mindset change, belief shift or ‘ah ha’ moment that you’ve experienced in relation to your career?

Asking God to help me and hearing His Voice. His Love and His Light is the sole reason I’ve become the man I am today. I’m no angel, but I’m not a procrastinator, either.
