Julie Catania-Shady – Author of Conversations With Colton

The miracle of her son’s life has inspired Julie Catania-Shady to share her journey with others.

What’s your story?

Hi, I’m Julie! I have an 8-year-old son named Colton. He’s determined, smart, caring, and the wittiest kid I know. When I was pregnant with him, doctors said he would not be born alive, but the doctors were wrong. While the days aren’t always easy, our conversations keep me laughing and questioning my sanity daily. So, I wrote a book about him and the miracle that he is. Conversations with Colton: A Story of Fear, Faith, and Doubt is an exploration of faith, filled with real stories about a hilarious little boy.

What excites you most about your industry?

Sharing my story, even if just one life is changed is what excites me most about being an author. I write to give hope. In times of struggle and uncertainty, it’s important to remember that hope is a powerful force that can guide us through even the darkest of days. Hope is the belief that tomorrow holds the promise of new beginnings and endless possibilities. Being able to encourage readers that their storm will pass and they will come out stronger is the biggest blessing.

What drives you in your career to push beyond what other people consider normal?

Without a doubt it’s my passion for storytelling and creativity.

I’m committed to honing my skills, expanding my knowledge, and evolving as a writer to deliver content that resonates with readers on a deeper level.

Life is hard! Everyone has challenges but at the end of the day, waking up each morning and taking the first step is what gets us through. Hope for the future is so needed especially in today’s world. While Conversations with Colton is full of HARD days, my hope is that readers will be encouraged to keep going and push through the hard days.

What have been the most useful skills you have learnt and applied in your journey?

As an Author, the most important skills needed (in my opinion) are perseverance and resilience. These are crucial traits for any author. Rejection and criticism are common in the writing industry, so being able to handle setbacks and keep pushing forward with your writing goals is essential for long-term success. Cultivating these skills can help navigate the challenges of the writing process and ultimately help achieve creative ambitions.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?

As an aspiring author, the best piece of advice I was given was to read widely and often. Reading a variety of genres and styles can help you develop your voice and improve your writing skills. Reading also helps authors expand their vocabulary, improve their writing style, and gain inspiration from other writers. By reading a variety of genres and styles, authors can learn new techniques, explore different narrative structures, and develop their unique voices. Additionally, reading allows authors to stay current with trends in literature and understand what resonates with readers.

Who inspires you?

My son, Colton, inspires me. He is the reason I write. He is without a doubt a miracle, so telling his story is what keeps me going.

What have you learnt recently that blew you away?

Once the storm is over you will be grateful you pushed through. I love this quote: “And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.”― Haruki Murakami, ‘Kafka on the Shore’.

Push through the storm! You will be forever grateful and changed because of it!

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?

I would WRITE THE WORDS I was SCARED TO WRITE! The more you run from what your heart is telling you to write the harder it will be! Do it SCARED! I wanted to write a light-hearted comical read and ran from my exploration of faith. The truth is I would have saved so much time if I just addressed my fears head-on.

How do you unwind?

I like to unwind by watching reality TV with a glass of wine. I also look forward to sitting in my book nook with a good book OR walking my dog Rocky while listening to true crime audiobooks.

What is a major mindset change, belief shift or ‘ah ha’ moment that you’ve experienced in relation to your career?

When we celebrated Colton’s seventh birthday, I finally told my friends the full story surrounding his miracle birth. The eight months leading up to his birth were hard for me mentally and physically. I didn’t post about our issues on social media. But when I decided to post his full birth story, it was almost like lightning hit me. I needed to share his story. So, I wrote this book!

Everyone in business should read this book:

This question is easy! You must read: “Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action,” by Simon Sinek. Simon Sinek understands the importance of vision. In his book ‘Start with Why’, he emphasizes the significance of commencing all plans by understanding the “why”. Embracing your purpose and letting it lead the way is a powerful approach to achieving enduring and genuine success. A key quote from the book is:

There are only two ways to influence human behavior: you can manipulate it or you can inspire it.

Shameless plug for your business or career:

Life is just a series of short stories, and every decision you make becomes part of your story. When in the moment, will you choose faith over fear or fear over faith? It’s an easy question to answer when you aren’t in the “storm” but a huge question when something near and dear to you is in jeopardy.

How do you keep having faith when you are caught in a “storm?” Conversations with Colton will explore just that! Don’t miss out on our thought-provoking journey- pick up your copy of “Conversations with Colton” today and let the healing begin. https://a.co/d/foxbku4
