To help others, Keath Silva uses the poetry and healing processes which have helped him.

What’s your story?

I am a transgender poet and healing arts practitioner in LA. I wrote poetry as a child and teenager to cope with the social challenges I was facing as a closeted queer and trans person. I have continued this practice my whole life and I feel delighted that now my poems are reaching people’s hearts offering support and being used in ceremonies and gatherings across the world. I also began receiving holistic healing sessions in my twenties which brought me so much relief, learning and integration and I really enjoy offering holistic healing to others now, especially the LGBTQ+ community.

What excites you most about your industry?

What excites me the most about the poetry world is that poetry about the trans experience is being read at many events to support the trans community and their allies. What excites me most about the healing arts industry is finding ways to make these powerful healing modalities more accessible to more people.

What drives you in your career to push beyond what other people consider normal?

I have a deep longing for justice. I wake up every day troubled about people, animals and the planet who are suffering because of colonization, violence, domination and oppression. I am committed to doing what I can to ease that suffering and make the world a kinder place.

What have been the most useful skills you have learnt and applied in your journey?

The most useful skills I have learned and applied on my journey are meditation, journaling and reaching out for support from others who have gone through what I am going through.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?

The best piece of advice I ever received was to pay attention to what I do 1st thing in the morning. I was told to make it positive! Make your bed, meditate, write in a journal, get some exercise, read something inspirational and observe some silence as you organize your thoughts and make your plan for the day.

Who inspires you?

Alok Vaid-Menon inspires me with their fierce commitment to gender liberation and their stunning mastery of words, not to mention their glorious outfits!

What have you learnt recently that blew you away?

I recently learned that a 60-minute massage offers the same benefits as 7-8 hours of sleep! I experience this myself when I receive therapeutic massage and I see it in the smiles on my client’s faces.

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?

I would have been more present with my children and put aside more of my own pursuits to show up for them. They grew up too fast.

How do you unwind?

I take walks in nature as a way of winding down. It always does the trick.

What is a major mindset change, belief shift or ‘ah ha’ moment that you’ve experienced in relation to your career?

My biggest ah ha moment in my career as a healing arts practitioner was when I realized that I didn’t need to conform to what I thought people expected of me and that the more I expressed my authenticity in my work and shared my unique gifts, the more I was able to support people and the more people wanted what I offer.

Everyone in business should read this book:

The Body Keeps The Score by Bessel van Der Kolk is a book everyone should read. It is very revealing about how trauma is stored in our bodies. In my healing arts practice, I witness people moving through trauma when they experience release in their bodies.

King Crone & The Empty Nest book cover

Shameless plug for your business or career:

My poetry books Lady Death and other Poems Venting Change and King Crone and the Empty Nest are must reads for anyone seeking a better understanding of the trans experience. When my clients in my healing arts practice leave their sessions, they feel more grounded, more at ease and reconnected with a sense of joy and well-being. I hold amazing space for everyone and especially for LGBTQ clients because I have been there and can relate 1st hand. I practice bodywork, energy work and Ancestral Lineage Healing in person and on zoom.
