Lynn Chang, Director of Urban Ski

Lynn Chang likes to keep her mind open and clear. As a child she wanted to be an astronaut. Now having set up an indoor snowboarding centre in Singapore, she is a long way from space but equally happy doing what she loves.
What’s your story?
Awfully blessed to be able to experience a myriad of occupations in different industries. From financial auditing, to flying as a cabin crew, to Forex broking and finally snowboarding.
Pretty much all of which are things I never thought I would be doing when I was young. Growing up, I wanted to be an astronaut. Life is a box of surprises!
What excites you most about your industry?
The addiction! Most people who snowboard and ski literally foam if they don’t see snow for a year. It’s a funny thing. Lugging heavy luggage and all that gear painstakingly to the next ski resort, all the muscle aches after days of snowboarding or skiing is nothing compared with the unbeatable fun and joy of snowsports. That’s not even taking into account the breathtaking scenery as well.
What’s your connection to Asia?
Asia is home. Family, friends, hopes, dreams, happiness and memories.

Favourite city in Asia for business and why?
Definitely Singapore. Business to me is the ability to enrich other people’s lives and there is no better place to do it than where it matters the most.
What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
If life sucks, don’t worry, it doesn’t last. If life is brilliant, don’t be complacent, it also doesn’t last.
I subscribe to “keeping a mind like water.”
Who inspires you?
Steve Jobs. His ridiculous passion inadvertently changed many people’s lives.
What have you just learnt recently that blew you away?
How determination really can move mountains. I was swept off my feet.
If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
Have a kid as young as possible (when you are 18-20 years old) when logic hasn’t hit! Then you can party with them!
How do you unwind?
A bottle of red wine at home with my favourite person. Better even with Black Cow cheese and a sprinkle of olive oil. Heaven on earth.
Favourite Asian destination for relaxation? Why?
Japan. In particular Rusutsu, Niseko, Hakuba, Nozawa Onsen. Why? Because I am a snowboarder!
