A near death experience and its consequences have been the motivator for Lee McKing to help others resolve their problems.
What’s your story?
A lot of people think I became a hypnotist because of interest but the truth is further than you think. I nearly died in my sleep at the age of 20 years old when my lung burst suddenly and collapsed to the size of a chicken egg. I developed PTSD from this, and subsequently fell into depression. This also escalated my other pre-existing mental health issues. With no one to turn to, I attended various NLP and Hypnosis courses to heal myself! I realized I had a unique perspective, I started this profession to help people heal their mental health.
What excites you most about your industry?
Every client of mine brings a new world, a new reality, for me to understand and guide, and help them to heal from their past wounds. I get to learn from my clients as much as they can learn from me! And hearing how their issues are resolved in a single hypnosis session with me, and getting their testimonials after they tested themselves to be free from depression, anxiety, or even panic attacks, that is job satisfaction to the highest degree!
What drives you in business to push beyond what other people consider normal?
Gosh! Essentially, I’ve been there… In depression? Yea. PTSD? I had that. Suicidal thoughts? I had those before too. Because I have experienced it, I find myself wanting to help my clients to heal, to find relief, to be free from their issues. As long as they want to resolve their issues, I’m willing to sacrifice my sleep, especially if it’s an emergency case.
What have been the most useful skills you have learnt and applied in your journey?
Understanding how the conscious and unconscious minds work from childhood to adulthood helps a great deal! Each client’s issues can be explained through understanding their family upbringing, as the programs from the family get learnt by the client as a child. From there, I can figure out the best techniques to help my clients resolve their issues fast.
What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
Focus on what you love. This is especially after my near death experience! Whether it’s your interest and passion, spending time with your family and friends, targeting the right clientele, if you focus on what you love to do, who to spend time with, who you wish to serve, you will have a fruitful life, and you can live a life of no regrets!
Who inspires you?
I draw inspiration from many different people depending on the situation, such as other hypnotists, to scientists and philosophers and more. Although if I were to pick the number one, I would say my parents. My dad was creative, he’s always thinking outside the box, and he taught me to have ethics and moral values. My mum has such strong perseverance and fortitude, as well as a logical approach to solving problems when presented. My parents taught me such things and more, and they inspire me to do my best, every day with love and compassion.
What have you learnt recently that blew you away?
How illogical the unconscious mind can be sometimes! I had a client where, due to a series of circumstances, developed an anxiety for salivation! Fortunately, we managed to find the root of the issue and resolved the anxiety in one session. But again, how illogical the unconscious mind has to be in order to create such a unique form of anxiety. This also highlights to me to never be content or surprised~ This is because there may be other odd anxieties or fears that my future clients might approach me for. If anything, it means I can help them better.
If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
I wouldn’t do anything differently to be honest. Due to all my various experiences with death and mental health, of successes and failures, and so on, all of these have led me to this point where I can empathise with my clients better and help them to heal. Changing anything might create unforeseen circumstances like a Multiverse of Madness! Hahhaa pun intended 😛
How do you unwind?
I hypnotize myself and explore my mind, and imagination! Normal hobbies include reading, an occasional walk in the park and a game of chess.
What is a major mindset change, belief shift or ‘ah ha’ moment that you’ve experienced in relation to your business?
When you understand the Law of Attraction and how it really works! You see, when I started this profession of mine, I realized that whatever is in my mind can manifest into my reality. And so I decided to remove the idea that “no one wants to talk about hypnosis” and instead replace it with “everyone is open minded to talk about hypnosis”! And I believe this is one of the keys to my success! That attracted a lot more people who were open minded and they may or may not be a client or link me up elsewhere~
