Raymond Lim’s journey from gambler to entrepreneur was not easy but has been successful.

What’s your story?

My path underwent a profound metamorphosis from compulsive gambler to accomplished entrepreneur. Once entranced by casino games and lotteries, I plunged into debt. Commencing as a bartender, I confronted formidable financial strains, but my resolve to conquer endured. Amid mounting debts reaching $186,000 and looming despair, I pressed on. Now a thriving entrepreneur, coach, speaker, and trainer, I exude optimism, forging connections and infusing unwavering zeal into all pursuits. At 46, I stand as proof that renewal and victory can arise from the most challenging circumstances, embodying the potential for transformation against all odds.

What excites you most about your industry?

I find my industry thrilling because I get to witness the incredible progress and positive changes that happen in the lives of people, their loved ones, and their enterprises. It’s inspiring to be part of an industry that can make a real difference and help individuals and organisations flourish. Knowing that my work contributes to society’s improvement and the success of those I interact with gives me a sense of purpose and satisfaction. Seeing the concrete results of our hard work on people’s health and businesses’ growth keeps me passionate and motivated daily.

What drives you in your career to push beyond what other people consider normal?

In my case, I think individuals can unlock their immense potential when they receive clear and certain guidance in their personal and professional lives.

What have been the most useful skills you have learnt and applied in your journey?

During my journey, I would say building relations with other people and mastering the business coaching skillsets are the skills I found very useful, not just for business but also for daily life.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?

I’ve learned that reading and researching extensively, seeking wisdom and insight from those who have walked the same path before, is essential for acquiring knowledge. Having someone to trust that you are not the only one facing these problems could help relieve the burden.

Who inspires you?

I find my mentor, Titus Yu, to be a great source of wisdom and compassion. Additionally, my wife and her belief in me during the whole journey, and most definitely, my children, my pillars of support, as they energise me for my work and daily life.

What have you learnt recently that blew you away?

I’ve been amazed by the numerous ways how businesses can grow, with or without financial capital, by utilising different resources and means of leverage.

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?

I would focus on my key strengths and concentrate on a few vital areas to grow stronger in those areas. The moment of realisation was when I acknowledged in which fields my expertise lies.

How do you unwind?

I unwind by driving, travelling, spending time with my kids, socialising with friends, and reading. Being able to spend more time with my family and friends is one thing we used to think was not that important. However, going through the whole journey, they are my strength to survive.

What is a major mindset change, belief shift or ‘ah ha’ moment that you’ve experienced in relation to your career?

I’ve realised that having a suitable business coach can provide clarity and insight, enabling us to grow exponentially.
