Solving logistical problems is the reason Sidney Tarver gets out of bed in the morning.
What’s your story?
I am Sidney Tarver from Chattanooga, Tn. I was a student athlete at TSU and graduated with a degree in supply chain. I went to the NFL after college and played a year with the Cleveland browns and Jacksonville jaguars. After I got cut I went on to pursue a career in corporate America. I worked for Damco distribution a 3PL under the Maersk and Amazon for 10 years in their logistics division. In 2020 i partnered with Amazon and became a dsp. I started People First Logistics Company in the middle of the pandemic and have been going strong every since.
What excites you most about your industry?
I love logistics; the challenges of getting goods from a to b. Going against challenges like time, weather, and all kind of obstacles to get the job done. Also servicing customers making sure everyone else’s life is easier due to our services. I also like to make sure all of my employees are able to feed their family.
What drives you in your career to push beyond what other people consider normal?
I like to take care of my family. Everyday I want to learn something new. I love to go through hardships because it makes me better every time.
What have been the most useful skills you have learnt and applied in your journey?
How to listen effectively. Listen more then you talk, always. Proximity is power. Being around the right people is life changing.
What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
Things dont happen to you they happen for you!
Who inspires you?
My mother and father. The made so many sacrifices for me to be successful.
What have you learnt recently that blew you away?
Less is more.
If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
No regrets i deserved everything that came my way.
How do you unwind?
Light some candles and turn on some good music.
What is a major mindset change, belief shift or ‘ah ha’ moment that you’ve experienced in relation to your career?
Keep it simple.
