Val Senan – Co-Founder of Urcliq Marketing Collective

Helping SMEs, business owners and entrepreneurs to get more customers, increase their profits and amplify their authority digitally.

What’s your story?

Following the “herd” was never for me. So I ventured to create my own career path.

Which included being a TV actor/host for 5 years, running my own dating company for men and wrestling as a pro wrestler around South East Asia.

Today, I’m the proud co founder of a digital marketing agency and honestly without that colourful experience I would not have been able to step up into the role of a co founder.

Which is why I love the entrepreneurial journey so much because it gets you to truly know who you are.

What excites you most about your industry?

I’d say the limitless possibilities!

Digital marketing is all about mixing creativity, logic and persuasion together artfully and scientifically.

It’s no longer complicated. There are many software and tools which allow you to drag and drop now. Even retirees can jump on the bandwagon to create a “laptop lifestyle” which gives them financial freedom with just a few clicks of the mouse!

What drives you in business to push beyond what other people consider normal?

Being the catalyst for positive change in the lives of those around me.

Knowing that with my skills as a digital marketer, I’m able to help turn someone’s life around directly or indirectly always pushes me to go above and beyond despite how tough the going gets.

What have been the most useful skills you have learnt and applied in your journey?

Technical wise it would be how to create an irresistible offer in your business which would make you the number logical choice in your industry.

And personally I’d say it’s about introspection.

A lot of entrepreneurs and business owners are chasing profits and sales but one thing they forget to do is to reflect on themselves. Because honestly any form of outward success begins from within.

When you know who you are and what you’re truly good in that’s when you’ll know how to use your talents to serve the market.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?

Take imperfect action always!

I used to be a perfectionist and because of that I didn’t get anything done.

But by being an imperfect action taker I was able to generate 12X to 16X return of interest for myself and my clients in a matter of days!

Which would not have been possible before due to my perfectionism.
Who inspires you? : Russel Brunson, Blake Nubar, Steve Larson, Dan Henry – All excellent entrepreneurs who are geniuses at digital marketing.

Close to home would be my late uncle who had the foresight and ambition to create businesses that were evergreen and generational.

One thing that I’ve learnt from them is to stay hungry, stay humble and always be grateful.

What have you learnt recently that blew you away?

Simplify to amplify.

I used love to overcomplicate things just to show the marketplace that I’m an expert and that I knew my stuff.

Little did I realize that by doing so I was repelling most of my potential customers away because they simply didn’t understand what I was doing, even though I had the exact solution for them!

So yes, there’s a lot of power in simplicity.

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?

I’d look for the right mentor right from the get go. I spent a lot of time trying to figure things out which honestly led to me spending so much more as compared to hiring a really good mentor to guide me.

My honest advice to anyone who wants to accelerate their business fast is this, get a mentor or a coach who’s been there and done that before.

How do you unwind?

When I’m not rolling around half naked in tights with other guys in the ring, I’m doing loads of high intensity interval trainings at the fitness corner just so that I can enjoy pigging out with my buddies over some food and drinks over the weekends.

I’ve a terrible sweet tooth as well, so I’m often looking for interesting cafes for good cakes and desserts too.

Oh and not forgetting the movie buff in me loves to check out the latest shows in town.

What is a major mindset change, belief shift or ‘ah ha’ moment that you’ve experienced in relation to your business?

I would have to say being an imperfect action taker. It’s helped me so much!

Because these days we’re launching, experimenting and testing out campaigns LIVE instead of just thinking theoretically about it and then not doing anything about it because we’re afraid we might fail.

And yes, there’s no such thing as a failed campaign. Because anything that goes out there will result in data and feedback being collected.

This is crucial because we can use it to massively improve.

Everyone in business should read this book:

I’m a little biased so I’d say the best place to start would be DOTCOM Secrets by Russel Brunson.

Especially useful for ANYONE who wants to go digital with their business.
