Growing up in a family of hairdressers did not limit Vince Ho’s interest in expanding the model.
What’s your story?
I am from a family of hairdressers. Having literally grown up in a hair salon and seen the inner workings of it, I’ve always dreamed of tweaking the business model to enhance the quality of life of the working hairdresser.
What excites you most about your industry?
Being able to empower our customers by making them confident about themselves brings a lot of excitement and fulfillment.
For HIPSALONS’ co-sharing business, being able to empower hairdressers and beauty professionals to build a sustainable career that gives them independence and higher income.
What drives you in business to push beyond what other people consider normal?
Normal is boring! Haha. I like to innovate, whether it’s a new service, a new product or a new business model. I believe that’s the only way to grow.
What have been the most useful skills you have learnt and applied in your journey?
Identifying the right people to work in positions that allow them to flourish is one of the most important skills – if you can call it that – that I have learned.
What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
Your word is your bond. It’s a reflection of your character. Make sure you always keep it.
Who inspires you?
My family. And Jack Welch.
What have you learnt recently that blew you away?
Yoga is so much more difficult than I thought!
If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
I’d start doing at 25 what I started at 35. But I’d rather not say what those things are! I’d also probably want to buy Bitcoin – lots of it!
How do you unwind?
Spending time with my family, cycling, yoga, weekend drives with friends, listening to music, reading.
What is a major mindset change, belief shift or ‘ah ha’ moment that you’ve experienced in relation to your business?
I used to think that when my employees leave the company, that’s the end of their journey with me. But then I realized that I can provide the platform for their continued growth by empowering them to become stylist-entrepreneurs and help facilitate the next step in their career. That was when I started HIPSALONS.
