Gary was a gifted 2IC at a large multinational I worked for many years ago who saw his staff’s strengths and weaknesses. He didn’t expect us to be great at every aspect of our job, and would shepherd me away from potential pitfalls in my role, whilst best utilising my ‘super powers.’ He trusted me to do what I was good at, praised me for it, and supported me and even ran interference where necessary. He showed me by example how to be a great manager and I strive to do the same and help my staff be the best they can be.
