Working on your business is no longer an option. What global problem would you most like to throw yourself at trying to solve and why? by James Trevelyan

Distribution of piped drinking water.

About 2 – 5 billion people today do not have 24 hour access to safe drinking water through a piped connection to their home or workplace. Yet there is no shortage of water for drinking. The traditional piped water utility model fails in most countries leaving people to find expensive alternatives such as bottled water. Those 20 litre bottles cost around USD 2 delivered to homes. Sounds inexpensive? Yet that is 50 times the cost of water delivered to homes in Australia, western Europe, Japan and other countries. Even in the USA there are regions without safe drinking water piped to homes. At the same time, mobile phone utilities are profitable businesses providing good service almost everywhere. My dream, after COOLZY, is to transfer the key enablers from mobile phones to build financially sustainable local piped water distribution services.
