In a recent LinkedIn post, Ankur Warikoo shares a deeply personal account of overcoming a severe health diagnosis and the subsequent redefinition of his personal achievements and life goals. The entrepreneur and public figure details his journey from a debilitating medical condition to achieving ambitious fitness milestones, offering insights into resilience, mindset, and the pursuit of self-improvement.

Warikoo begins by recounting a pivotal moment in February 2012 when he was diagnosed with Avascular Necrosis, a condition where the hip bone decays. The stark prescription from his doctor, underlined twice, read: “Stop walking!” This diagnosis placed him in a rare category of patients with no identifiable cause for the condition.

“I was diagnosed with Avascular Necrosis. My hip bone was decaying. I lay in the 10% with no cause.”

Following surgery, Warikoo faced a significant recovery period, including three months of bed rest and five months on crutches. While he eventually recovered physically, the experience left a profound impact on his perspective. He describes a moment of what he calls “craziness” where he decided to challenge his limitations by preparing for and running a half marathon.

Redefining Achievement Through Daily Effort

Despite completing the half marathon after ten months of preparation, Warikoo reveals an unexpected emotional response. Instead of elation, he felt a sense of having “cheated.” This feeling stemmed from the fact that his longest training run had only been 14 kilometers, and he believed he could have finished the 21-kilometer race on sheer willpower without rigorous preparation. This realization prompted a shift in his thinking about what constitutes a true accomplishment.

“What was something I could do for which I had to show up every day?” Warikoo questioned, seeking a new benchmark for personal achievement that required consistent effort and discipline, rather than a single, albeit challenging, event.

The Ten-Year Journey to Six-Pack Abs

This introspection led Warikoo to another ambitious goal: achieving six-pack abs. At 33, with a body fat percentage of 26%, this was a significant undertaking. He explains that reaching his target of less than 10% body fat required a holistic transformation, involving drastic changes to his diet, sleep schedule, and fitness routine.

“At 33, with 26% body fat, I had to change everything to reach less than 10% body fat. And I did – diet, sleep schedule, fitness routine.”

The post highlights that this was not a short-term fix but a sustained effort. Warikoo notes that ten years later, in 2024, he decided to embark on this journey again. Now 45, he proudly states he is “fat-free” and has internalized the routine and mindset required, believing it will remain with him for life.

A Perspective of Gratitude

Warikoo concludes his reflection with a sense of profound gratitude for what he terms his “second life.” His narrative underscores the importance of confronting health challenges head-on and using them as catalysts for personal growth and the establishment of sustainable, discipline-driven goals. As Ankur Warikoo points out, true achievement often lies not just in reaching a destination, but in the daily commitment and transformation required to get there.

“Grateful for this ‘second’ life 👊”

His experience serves as a powerful testament to the human capacity for resilience and the continuous pursuit of self-betterment, emphasizing that life’s setbacks can indeed be overcome with the right mindset and unwavering dedication.
