These days, every commitment I consider has to pass one core filter:
“Is this worth being away from my family or the things that bring me joy and peace?”
Not in a dramatic way. In a practical, grounded way.
When I evaluate a new project, meeting, or opportunity, I now ask:
- Is it monetarily meaningful or just keeping me busy?
- Does it serve someone beyond me?
- Will it move the needle or just spin my wheels?
Because Time Isn’t Just Money
Time is your presence, your focus, and your one non-renewable resource.
I’ve burned time before thinking I was “building something” when, in reality, I was chasing noise. These days, the bar is higher.
If it doesn’t serve a purpose, a person, or a principle, I let it go.
If it doesn’t multiply meaning or value, it’s a distraction.
Legacy Is Not Built by Being Everywhere
Legacy is built by being in the right places on purpose.
So here’s a question worth asking before your next yes:
Is this worth being away from what matters most?
