In a recent LinkedIn post, Jesse McFarland challenges the prevailing narrative that Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and organic traffic are in terminal decline. Amidst a flood of content on the platform predicting the demise of traditional search traffic, McFarland offers a grounded perspective based on his own client experiences.

McFarland highlights the daily influx of posts on LinkedIn that declare SEO’s end, citing common themes such as zero-click searches and predictions of reduced traffic. He notes:

“Beware of the SEO noise on LinkedIn. Every day I see countless posts about SEO & Organic traffic dying.”

While acknowledging that search may indeed be evolving and traffic might be harder to secure than in the past, McFarland argues that the doomsday predictions are often overstated. He points to a different reality observed with his own clientele.

The Reality of Organic Traffic Growth

According to McFarland, many of his established clients experienced an impact around March of the previous year. However, this dip was followed by a resurgence. He states:

“Most of my established customers were impacted in March of 2025. Around Q3, and into Q4 2025, organic traffic started growing again.”

McFarland attributes this recovery, in part, to the adoption of new tactics and a significant rise in branded searches. Despite these shifts, his firm continues to deliver traffic for its clients, a trend he anticipates will persist.

Beyond Traffic: Focusing on Business Outcomes

Jesse McFarland emphasizes that while traffic is an important metric, it is not the ultimate key performance indicator (KPI) for his business. The true measures of success are leads and revenue generated.

Navigating the ‘Noise’

McFarland expresses a degree of weariness with what he perceives as excessive alarmism surrounding SEO on social media platforms like LinkedIn. He advises caution when consuming such content.

“Always take the SEO / GEO noise on LinkedIn with a grain of salt.”

He concludes by reiterating his observations: that despite the widespread ‘noise,’ a significant portion of his client base is actually experiencing an increase in organic traffic. This suggests that while the SEO landscape is changing, opportunities for growth remain for those who adapt and focus on fundamental business objectives.
