In a powerful moment for global environmental advocacy, I had the privilege of joining a diverse coalition of scientists, Indigenous leaders, government ministers, youth activists, business leaders, and changemakers at the launch of the Planetary Health Check 2025. This critical initiative underscores the urgent need to address the escalating environmental challenges facing our planet.

The Sobering Reality: Seven Planetary Boundaries Breached

The findings presented by the Planetary Health Check 2025 are stark and leave no room for complacency. The data reveals that seven out of nine critical planetary boundaries have now been crossed. Most alarmingly, this includes the boundary for ocean acidification, a threshold that has never been breached before. This morning, we took to the streets of New York City to participate in the ‘Time to Draw the Line’ activation. The walk commenced at Newtown Creek, a waterway tragically recognized as one of the most polluted in America, and concluded at Bryant Park, a vibrant green oasis in the heart of Manhattan.

This symbolic journey from pollution to preservation highlighted the profound contrast between the environmental degradation we face and the natural beauty we must strive to protect. It was a powerful visual representation of the challenges ahead and the hope for a healthier future.
