From Delusion to Validation: How Embracing Vulnerability Fueled My Personal Brand

I left LinkedIn because of LinkedIn to build a business about LinkedIn 📣 Amplifying the Voices of Solopreneurs and Billion Dollar Giants

Eight months ago, I was virtually unknown. Today, I stand here having achieved success, not by shying away from my journey, but by embracing it, even the embarrassing parts. This realization hit me profoundly when I met an early follower at CreatorFest London. They shared how my journey gave them the belief that anything is achievable if they just persevere.

It’s funny, because I certainly didn’t start my journey with confidence. I started it with what felt like sheer delusion. I announced to the internet, very publicly and transparently, that I was going to build a personal brand. I shared my failures, I spoke about being ‘cancelled’ (twice!), and I was open about those moments when I had absolutely no clue what I was doing. But I kept going. The driving force? A persistent, hopeful question: “What if it actually works?”

The Power of Public Perseverance

And remarkably, it did. The milestones started to appear: my first 10,000 followers, securing my first brand partnership deal, and then, a pivotal moment – replacing my LinkedIn salary within a single month. This journey has taught me a valuable lesson about who we should listen to.

Consider this: an athlete doesn’t judge another for practicing. A musician doesn’t criticize someone learning to sing. A millionaire doesn’t look down on someone starting a business. Why? Because they understand the process. It’s often those who are going nowhere, who are stagnant in their own pursuits, that tend to have the loudest, most critical opinions.

Why Are You Listening to Them?

So, I ask you: why are you giving weight to their words? Your path is unique. Your truth is valid. Post it. Share it. Show the world the brilliance that you possess. Because one day, you might encounter someone who tells you, just as my follower did, “You made me believe in myself.” It’s moments like these that make all the vulnerability worthwhile.

Looking Ahead: Embracing the Stage

I’m incredibly grateful to Raf and the CreatorFest team for the opportunity to speak. It was a brave decision on their part, and I don’t take it lightly. Looking forward, I’m preparing for my first solo talk on a big stage at the Changemakers Conference by The Marketing Society Scotland next week. The internal dialogue is a fascinating mix of “I was born for this” and “I wonder if Ryanair offers refunds” – a testament to the exhilarating, terrifying nature of stepping into the spotlight.
