In a recent LinkedIn post, Matt Gray shares his innovative approach to scaling business operations by leveraging AI to ‘clone’ his decision-making and execution capabilities. Gray details how this strategy, which he calls his “10x Profit Clone,” has transformed his productivity and allowed him to delegate a vast array of tasks.

Gray recounts a specific instance where he woke up to 47 demanding tasks, ranging from drafting a COO job description to creating strategy documents for multiple businesses. He explains his shift from the traditional method of personally tackling every item to utilizing his AI clone.

“The old me would’ve spent the entire weekend grinding through them. Instead, I put a little ’10x’ box next to each one. That’s my signal. Hand it to my AI clone.”

He emphasizes that this AI cloning is not a futuristic concept but a practical application of current technology, provided the AI is trained with the correct foundational systems. Gray describes spending six months building his “10x Profit Clone,” training it on 39 core documents from his business and personal life. This training, he asserts, enables the AI to make decisions and drive profits across his businesses, which collectively generate over $13 million annually.

The System Behind the AI Clone

Gray outlines a two-step process for creating and utilizing an AI clone effectively. The first step, ‘Documentation,’ involves systemizing the seven core aspects of a customer journey: Awareness, Inquiry, Sales, Onboarding, Delivery, Collections, and Renewal. For each of these, he recommends documenting three distinct systems.

The second step, ‘Life Decision Optimization,’ extends the AI’s application beyond mere business tasks. Gray shares a personal anecdote about using his clone to design his home in Bali, with the AI generating architectural plans that incorporated a Frank Lloyd Wright aesthetic, ideas he hadn’t considered himself.

“Never take anything from 0 to 100 yourself. Get your clone to take it from 0 to 80, then you finish the last 20%. That cognitive distance gets offloaded so you can focus on what actually moves the needle.”

Gray draws a parallel to successful, large-scale businesses like Starbucks and McDonald’s, highlighting their reliance on standardized menus and repeatable processes. He argues that AI excels when presented with clear systems and documentation, allowing it to make decisions far more effectively than an individual operating without such structures.

The Future of Business Leadership

Looking ahead, Matt Gray predicts a divergence in the business landscape by 2027. He foresees two distinct groups of founders: those who have proactively adopted AI cloning at an elite level and those who will be left behind.

“When I look out to 2027, I see two types of founders: The ones who started cloning themselves at an elite level today. And the ones who got left behind. Which one will you be?”

Gray’s insights suggest that the ability to effectively delegate and leverage AI for decision-making and execution is becoming a critical differentiator for business leaders aiming for significant growth and operational efficiency. He posits that AI, when properly integrated with robust systems, can act as a powerful force multiplier, enabling founders to offload cognitive burdens and focus on high-impact strategic initiatives.
