A lifetime of illness treated by conventional medicine was the spur for Ketki Vinayachandra to look for alternatives and become a Naturopath and Herbalist.
What’s your story?
Since I was a teenager, I have had asthma and other health conditions. My entire teenage and adult life was filled with visits to doctors, inhalers, painkillers and surgery. The last straw was being rushed in an ambulance to A&E for asthma.
I was driven by circumstances to find a natural and holistic solution for my health challenges and out of sheer desperation I decided to go to Sydney to study to be a Naturopath; so that I could heal myself and pursue my passion of helping to heal others through natural medicine.
I am a trained Naturopath, Nutritionist, Herbalist and Iridologist registered with the Naturopath & Herbalist Association of Australia (NHAA). I renew my clinical license every year. Since returning to Singapore in 2006, I’ve been treating clients’ health challenges and supporting them on their path of healing. I am trained in Drug and Nutrient/Herb Interactions and have the expertise to advise you on herbs or nutritional supplements you can or cannot take when you are taking certain drugs or medications. What excites you most about your industry?
The global complementary and alternative medicine market size is projected to reach US$ 296.3 billion by 2027, exhibiting a CAGR of 19.9%, according to a new report by Grand View Research, Inc. A comparatively high demand for alternative medicine across developing countries and expanding applications of traditional medicine practiced in Asia are two key driving factors in the market. In addition, an increase in the number of licensed and trained physicians who can offer state-of-the-art complementary therapies is set to boost patient preference toward traditional medicine. It is becoming integral in the healthcare system in Asia. Also during the coronavirus pandemic, we saw a digital switch, but what has surprised me the most is just how dramatic that has been. Research showed that a whopping 85% of consumers reported attending live stream wellness webinar classes on at least a weekly basis during COVID-19.
What is your connection to Asia?
My parents migrated from India to find a better life. I am Indian but born and brought up in Singapore and am Singaporean.
Favourite city in Asia for business and why?
Singapore. Most safe. Most efficient. Most transparent and has the best practices.
What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
Focus inwards. You will find true happiness, it is within you. The journey is inward, not outward.
Who inspires you?
My Guru. My partner. My parents. My colleagues. I am blessed to have great people around me who keep me aligned with my higher goals in life.
What have you just learnt recently that blew you away?
I always knew this theoretically… but as life teaches us through experiences, realisations become internalised — & truly truly inner happiness and self care is our inner capital that no one can take away and will stand us through tough times.
If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
I would have learnt to be independent at a younger age. I would have made my own mistakes and learnt more quickly. I would have spent more time by myself – so that I could grow an inner resilience early on.
How do you unwind?
I spend time with loved ones, and listen to uplifting seminars and words from spiritual gurus.
Favourite Asian destination for relaxation? Why?
India – land of spirituality. lovely yummy awesome food. Great heritage and scenic places. Back to my roots.
