Everyone’s under pressure.
But not everyone gets to be in a room full of people who are doing something about it.
The other week at LDP Connect North America, I had the privilege of keynoting a room full of early talent leaders – from global giants to lean teams, from Fortune 50s to mission-driven organizations.
And across all of them, one theme kept emerging:
“We’re being asked to do more with less.”
Less budget, less time, fewer people, and higher expectations.
It wasn’t a complaint. It was a reality.
A Mindset Shift That Changes Everything
What struck me most was that the best leaders weren’t just trying to stretch what they had. They were reframing the entire equation.
That’s what my keynote explored:
What if we stopped treating early talent as a “program”… and started treating it as a product?
Because a product has:
- Users (your talent)
- Outcomes (retention, belonging, pipeline)
- A roadmap, a GTM strategy, and a real business case
This mindset shift changes how leaders show up, not defensively, but strategically.
From Reaction to Strategy: What the Best Are Doing
Here’s how I saw leaders reframe “do more with less”:
1. More strategic clarity, less reactive chaos: They connect every effort back to core business goals, not just HR cycles.
2. More co-ownership, less top-down pressure: Programs are co-designed with managers, mentors, even alumni.
3. More narrative, less noise: Storytelling isn’t just communication, it’s positioning.
4. More experiments, less ego: They run lean pilots, test fast, and scale what works.
5. More unapologetic advocacy: They treat early talent not as fluff, but as the front end of their leadership pipeline.
Meeting the Moment With Creativity and Grit
The challenges are real, and the constraints are tight. But what I saw in that room was more than adaptation, it was leadership in motion.
It’s not about having more. It’s about thinking differently about what we already have.
And that’s a story worth telling.
