The app allowed for private vote selection, automated tracking of results, and managed a live leaderboard, all implemented in a remarkably short timeframe.

The Efficiency of ‘Vibe Coding’ with AI

McCauley emphasizes the dramatic time savings and accessibility of this new approach. She contrasts the five-minute ‘vibe coding’ session with the past:

“Two years ago, something like this would’ve meant hiring a programmer (or persuading a friend to do it as a favor!) There would’ve been a long conversation about requirements and UX, followed by hours of building. This year it took five minutes.”

The success of this custom app underscores McCauley’s point about the evolving capabilities of AI tools. The expertise lay not in complex coding, but in clearly articulating needs to the AI. As McCauley notes, the ‘expertise of the voting lead, who knew what to ask for after more than a decade of Oscar Parties,’ was key to guiding the AI effectively.
