One misconception is that trauma recovery is simply about revisiting the past or talking about what happened. In reality, it’s also about understanding how past experiences can influence behaviour, relationships, self-worth and the way we respond to everyday situations. Another misconception is that healing means reaching a point where you never struggle again. I see it differently: healing is about developing greater awareness, resilience and choice, so you can recognise old patterns and respond differently. It’s less about erasing the past and more about changing how you carry it forward.
