A belief in always doing good by others is what motivates Andrew Davey, and he disregards what others may think of him.
What’s your story?
High school dropout to self made Entrepreneur. Ive long been self employed and enjoy the personal sovereignty that comes with it. I started a business as a 23 year old with one primary reason. I did not want a boss to tell me what to do.
I learned how important it was to be successful at business, you need to be great with people. I find it very natural to connect with others, build trust and help them get what they want.
What excites you most about your industry?
I have never found something more purposeful than watching a human being experience exploration of self and them notice how their life tends to shift positively as a result of how they show up in the world.
What drives you in your career to push beyond what other people consider normal?
I don’t feel the need to push anymore. I trust myself alot more than I once did. I find myself just saying YES, if it aligns with values, it’s good for me, good for others, then great things can only transpire.
What have been the most useful skills you have learnt and applied in your journey?
Be relationship oriented. Lead with appreciation of others, uplift others in your presence, and always do your best to be a good human in whatever version that is for you.
What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
When you have to decide between doing things right or doing the right thing ALWAYS follow your values and do good by others. Doing the right thing always comes back in the most unusual ways.
Who inspires you?
Every client I have worked with. Watching them transform the way they live and be in the world. It inspires me to continue to do what I do. There is no better feeling than joy and the satisfaction that comes from knowing you played a small part in their journey.
What have you learnt recently that blew you away?
Fatherhood (to a 4 year old) truly revealed where leadership matters most. They know when you are not fully present, they demand of you to be authentic, and they are always watching, listening and observing how to be.
My son waves to bus drivers, says please and thank you to strangers, smiles and lights their day up. He’s always observing how I interact with the world.
If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
I would give less of a shit about what others think in my 20’s and 30’s. No one really cares anyway so you have nothing to prove to the world.
The sooner you no longer care what others think, the faster you seem to open up opportunities in your life.
How do you unwind?
2 Wheels – The faster you go the slower everything else gets, and the more you think about what was and what could be, there is only what is!
What is a major mindset change, belief shift or ‘ah ha’ moment that you’ve experienced in relation to your career?
The metaphor of the feather, brick or the truck. Our life always leaves us clues of the path we are on, should we choose to listen. I had times in my life when the feathers and the bricks were telling me to look elsewhere, Yet the truck showed up, painfully, with a life lesson that I had no choice but to listen. Why wait until it’s so painful to make a change we know we should have?
