Action Before Motivation: The Key to Moving Forward by Trina Kennedy

Trina Kennedy

Action before motivation. When things feel hopeless, I remind myself that motivation doesn’t come first—action does. I take one small step, no matter how minor, to create momentum. It could be a short walk, journaling, or reaching out to a trusted friend or mentor. Movement shifts my energy, and progress (even tiny wins) fuels motivation. I also reframe challenges, focusing on what’s within my control rather than what isn’t. Lastly, I remind myself of my why—the deeper purpose behind my work and goals. Purpose is the anchor that keeps me moving forward, even in the hardest moments.
