Humour has a permanent place in business; it keeps us humane and keeps interactions on a less formal footing between colleagues and clients. I have seen a well-placed, respectful joke untangle situations that felt genuinely stuck. As an Advisor, I stay professional, but I use humour deliberately to connect, with clients, with founders, as a reminder that there is more to the relationship than the transaction itself. The key is intent: used badly, humour backfires quickly; used wisely, it lowers even the most guarded person’s invisible barriers. Nothing is off-limits if the respect behind it is real.
