How to get good habits to stick?

Setting goals and actually achieving them are two distinct things. Many of the world’s most successful individuals are creatures of habit and follow a set of regular routines.

Here are five methods to transform your “wish list” of habits into activities that make you feel better each and every day.

Every day, begin your new habit at the same time.

A consistent routine, whether it’s a morning workout or a nightly plan to tackle the next day’s to-do list, is critical.

Begin with little steps.

Things don’t always get mended or modified. You can start improving your health with a few days of dietary planning, more walks each day and a week without Facebook. Get the latest news on your computer or TV without getting sidetracked by mindless scrolling.

Have a certain aim in mind.

When, why and how will you go about it? Do not answer any of these questions with any ambiguity. Schedule your writing time into your calendar, and don’t allow other things to get in the way of your progress.

Consistency is key.

Habits are formed by repeated exposure to a stimulus. There is no substitute for setting a date and time and being responsible for your actions, no matter what you’re doing. Ask your family and friends to keep an eye on you and support you as you go through this difficult time.

When things go wrong, have a strategy in place.

If you make a mistake, don’t be hard on yourself and have a strategy for rapidly getting back on track. Make this your mantra: “Never miss twice”. Be fair to yourself.

In addition to feeling successful, fostering self-discipline and being more deliberate in your thoughts and actions, here are five more advantages of forming and implementing new habits.

The appropriate habits help you attain your objectives.

With the appropriate habits, you’re more efficient, productive and strategic about the thoughts and activities that bring you towards your objectives.

You can become the person you want to be if you develop the appropriate habits.

Create routines and habits that will help you become the person you want to be instead of depending on spurts of inspiration.

You can benefit others if you cultivate good habits.

In the end, what you do on a daily basis (aka your habits) will have an impact on others around you. It’s a certain method to aid or influence people, and it’s even more crucial to lead by example when you do so.

Improve your quality of life.

Behaviours that may have a substantial influence on various aspects of your life are referred to as “keystone habits”. Routines help us be more effective and successful. A combination of two or more habits allows us to have exceptionally productive days on a regular basis.

Remember that this will be difficult. It’s so easy to go back into old habits and do what’s familiar to me — reading through social media in bed, eating badly, not exercising —over and over. In order to effect change, you must first place yourself in a state of discomfort.

When it comes to our daily activities, what matters most is doing what makes us feel the best and healthiest.
