Hire for values, mindset and self-awareness – not just experience. Skills can often be developed, but how someone thinks, communicates and responds under pressure is much harder to change. I also look beyond the interview performance and try to understand how someone has handled failure, conflict and uncertainty. The best team members aren’t necessarily the loudest or most impressive candidates; they’re people who are curious, accountable, adaptable and willing to challenge thinking constructively. Most importantly, be clear about your culture and expectations from the start – great people are attracted to environments where they can contribute, grow and be trusted.
