For me: working with the wrong people. I’ve done it more than once, and it never ends well.

Mid-career, I realised how much my happiness depended on a strong connection with my manager. That now shapes how I choose board roles—and how I lead as a Chair.

I look for alignment with the CEO, the mission, and the board. And I work hard to create a culture where people feel confident to speak up and challenge each other.
