Most, if not all of us, have the ambition to succeed. Sometimes our careers accomplishments form our definition of success. Whenever we see our careers flourishing, we feel satisfied and accomplished. Additionally, we feel more proud when people affirm us. However, some circumstances halter our career development. Sometimes, we experience not moving forward in our career path. These occurrences can either be due to personal or situational reasons. So, what’s stopping your career from progressing?
DISORGANISATION
Lists are essential to ensure that you get all the tasks done. It also makes you feel that you control the situation, especially if you have a very tight schedule. When you organise your to-do list correctly, you tend to finish faster and more efficiently. To keep priorities in check, make sure to write down the things you need to do for the entire day or week. It is also better, but almost impossible, not to check your email before starting your day to avoid being overwhelmed with another task. Don’t forget to place your to-do list somewhere you can constantly see so that you can always check them.
LIGHT ON CONFIDENCE
A lack of confidence can also hinder someone’s progress because they often decline the opportunities. People shy away from career growth opportunities because they cannot do what people expect.
As confidence is built throughout the years of experience, don’t forget to practice and continuously learn your craft. You are unconfident because you think your skills are insufficient, so find ways to upskill. Remember to grab all the opportunities coming your way, as long as they help you get nearer to your goal.
PROCRASTINATION
Time is vital in growth, and using it properly will give you many opportunities to progress. However, we often think that we have so much time on our hands until the deadline arrives, and we end up cramming. There are many reasons why a person procrastinates, but the effects are similar – you hinder your progress. If you feel exhausted, take a rest. If you think you are suffocated with your everyday tasks, give yourself a breather. Whatever you choose to do, don’t forget to use your time in a meaningful way.
INDECISIVENESS
You are probably not progressing because you realise that your chosen career is not what you wanted. When this happens, prevent yourself from thinking that you wasted time reaching for a different goal. We have different ways of realisation, and we will never know what we want until such things happen. Instead of moping around for the lost time, find your true interests and start from there. It may take you a long time, but at least you are pursuing your actual dream.
LACK OF FOCUS
People have different attention spans. It helps to ensure that your workplace or environment will provide you with peace and convenience to complete your tasks. Furthermore, make the things that distract you (e.g., phone, TV dramas, etc.) as your reward after a long day.
