Which productivity ‘life hacks’ will work for you?

Productivity is basically the measure of how much you get done in a short span of time. It is the measure of one’s efficiency and effectiveness and is often used to judge your performance in work and life in general. Productivity is also an indication of your energy and commitment to performing the task at hand – a demonstration of your motivation and willingness to do whatever is required.

Now, people have been coming up with ways to keep themselves productive, or be more so. On TikTok, in particular, it’s easy to come across “life hacks” designed to help improve one’s productivity. These include simple ones like stopping multitasking to elaborate rituals designed to change one’s mindset for the better.

So, which life hacks work best for entrepreneurs?

TikTok is a treasure trove of productivity hacks. So much, in fact, that Jandra Sutton of Business Insider decided to try out some and see which one works. Here are some hacks that she has tested so far that we believe work best with any business.

  • Time Blocking
It is tempting to keep working beyond reasonable hours when running a business, and often we use some of that time inefficiently. Time blocking essentially introduces a semblance of order in your work hours by breaking up your schedule into different segments. This lets you better plan out your day, and it is more effective if you also take your energy levels into account. In this way, you get to set the best schedules for rest, personal commitments, and the most difficult tasks.
  • Pomodoro Technique
This technique breaks up your day into manageable 25-minute chunks divided by five-minute rest intervals. Each of these chunks are called pomodoros. As a rule, whenever you complete four pomodoros, you get to reward yourself with a 20-minute break. This setup is practically designed to encourage productivity, not just in business but in practically any other aspect of your life.
  • 5-Minute Rule
Procrastination is one of the biggest antagonists in every person’s quest to achieve productivity. The 5-Minute Rule is a great defence against this rather demotivating hurdle. This rule says that whenever you find yourself having difficulties starting a task, procrastinating, or avoiding the work altogether, focus on the task for only five minutes. Regardless of how much you have accomplished, you may then rest after that five-minute period, or keep working if you prefer.

There are many other productivity hacks out there that are worth exploring. You can also improve upon what you’ve learned to suit your habits and the nature of your business. In any case, it is essential to note that becoming productive does not equate to pushing yourself to get the most things done within a certain time frame. Small things like managing distractions and energy levels work great wonders.
