In my experience, the most valuable skill developed beyond formal education has been judgment, particularly the ability to make decisions under uncertainty.
Across global banking and now in board and advisory roles, situations rarely present themselves with complete information. The discipline lies in synthesising diverse signals, balancing risk with opportunity, and acting with conviction while remaining open to recalibration.
Equally, it is about asking the right questions—often more important than having immediate answers—and creating space for better thinking around the table.
Over time, this combination of judgment, perspective, and thoughtful inquiry has proved far more enduring than any technical expertise.
