Building and keeping a network. I’m comfortable with depth — customers, colleagues, a handful of people I’ve known for years. What I lack is the reflex to reach out when I don’t need anything, and that’s exactly when it should happen. I’ve quietly believed that good work finds its way to people. It doesn’t; people do. And a network follows the same rule as everything else I’ve learned: you build it years before you need it, and by the time you need it, it’s too late to start. I’d like that reflex to come naturally.
