How do you get into the ‘zone’ when it comes to working? by Mark de Jong

I don’t switch into it — I try not to lose it. The day starts slowly: never rushed, and a long breakfast. Then I meditate, and I do Ba Duan Jin, a set of eight qigong movements that loosens the body. If I’m going to the office, I cycle half an hour in the fresh air. Only then do I open anything. It’s more than an hour before I do a minute of work, which sounds indulgent — but concentration isn’t something you summon. It’s what is left over when you haven’t spent your morning reacting to other people.
